Katherine Garrett

DVM, DACVS

Speaker Bio
Dr. Katie Garrett shareholder and director of diagnostic imaging at Rood & Riddle Equine Hospital in Lexington, Kentucky, has been appointed 2022 vice president of the American Association of Equine Practitioners. She attended Dartmouth College in Hanover, NH, where she obtained her Bachelor of Arts degree in biochemistry and molecular biology in 1999. She then attended veterinary school at Cornell University in Ithaca, NY, graduating with distinction in 2003. Dr. Garrett completed two internships (2003-2005) and an equine surgery residency (2008-2011) at Rood & Riddle Equine Hospital, achieving board certification in the American College of Veterinary Surgeons in 2012. Her main area of interest is diagnostic imaging, with particular interests in musculoskeletal MRI and laryngeal imaging.

Stephen Reed

DVM, DACVIM

Speaker Bio
Dr. Reed earned his DVM at The Ohio State University, followed by a residency at Michigan State University. He started his academic teaching career at Washington State University from 1979-1983, and then returned to The Ohio State University where he spent 26 years as a professor and mentor in the Equine Medicine department. Dr. Reed is a Diplomate in the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine and is a noted author and editor of numerous scientific articles and textbooks. He has spoken at many state, national and international meetings. His primary research interests include Equine Neurologic Diseases. He is currently an Internal Medicine Specialist and shareholder of the Practice at Rood & Riddle Equine Hospital, Emeritus Professor of The Ohio State University, an Adjunct Professor at the University of Kentucky and is currently the Chairman of the Grayson-Jockey Club Research Advisory Committee.

Sheri Miller

Speaker Bio

Sheri Miller is a Licensed Veterinary Technician at Rood & Riddle and a past-president of the AAEVT. She works alongside renowned vet and surgeon, Dr. Larry Bramlage, to evaluate horses and help them continue to perform at their highest level. With everything from advanced therapies, to the latest diagnostic equipment, to even plush and sunny paddocks, Miller and the entire Rood & Riddle team keep the health and happiness of their horses a constant priority.

Joni Watkins

Speaker Bio 
Joni attended Texas State Technical College in Waco, Texas, graduating in 1978 as a Registered Veterinary Technician. Following graduation, she joined Texas A&M University’s College of Veterinary Medicine in the radiology section of the department of Small Animal Medicine and Surgery. After 5 years, she transferred to the department of Large Animal Medicine and Surgery allowing her to combine her love for radiology with her passion for horses, where she spent the remainder of her professional career (26 years) teaching students the art of equine radiographic imaging and providing high quality radiographs of patients admitted to the large animal clinic of Texas A&M’s veterinary medical teaching hospital. In 2006, she joined Sound Technologies where her duties included lecturing and providing laboratory instruction in radiographic and ultrasonographic techniques. Since 2017, she has been employed by MinXray Inc. as a lecturer and laboratory instructor for radiation safety and imaging techniques as well as sales consultant. She has presented numerous lectures on radiographic imaging at the local, state, and national level.

Wet Labs, Demonstrations & Lectures

The day begins with an overview lecture of imaging modalities that will be covered during the day and examples of cases that are appropriate for each. Participants will then break into small groups and rotate through hands-on labs and demos covering: ultrasound, computed tomography, nuclear scintigraphy and positron emission tomography, magnetic resonance imaging, sales survey radiographs, skull radiographs, chest and abdomen radiographs, neck and back radiographs, and in-depth hands-on labs covering the appendicular skeleton.

Breakfast, lunch and dinner will be provided. The day will conclude with a Q&A session with all speakers.
