Equine Sports Medicine & Surgery, Race Horse Services, PLLC(“ESMS”)has an immediate opportunity for a veterinary technician looking to jumpstart their career in the exciting world of equine racetrack medicine. We are seeking a veterinary technician to join our team of equine racetrack veterinarians in Southeastern New Mexico. This position is based in Sunland Park, New Mexico, but will also travel and work the horseracing meets in Ruidoso Downs, New Mexico and Zia Park in Hobbs, New Mexico.
ESMS is a large multiple-veterinarian equine racetrack practice providing veterinary services at horseracing tracks in New Mexico, Texas & Oklahoma. We utilize the latest technologies including digital radiology, ultrasound, extracorporeal shockwave therapy, etc., and work on some of the finest Quarter Horse and Thoroughbred race horses in the world.
ESMS racetrack veterinary technicians work an average of 50+ hours per week assisting veterinarians with medical treatments, radiographs, dentistry, laboratory, diagnostics, record keeping, data entry, reordering & restocking inventory, maintaining vehicles & equipment, etc.
Qualifications: We seek a team-oriented individual with good horsemanship skills and a strong work ethic. RVT or veterinary technician experience is preferred but not required. Backside experience is definitely a plus.
Compensation:
We offer excellent wages and benefits package, including insurance, 401k, paid CE, and great advancement potential. Starting wages range from $12 per hour to $15 per hour or more, depending on experience and qualifications. This position is based in Sunland Park, New Mexico, but will require travel and extended stays at other racetrack locations. ESMS will provide a housing allowance or accommodations when working away from Sunland Park.

This position assists faculty and students with patient care, facilitates faculty instruction of professional curriculum to veterinary medical students with an emphasis on clinical techniques, provides technical support for surgical and medical procedures, provides physical restraint for safe handling of patient animals, and maintains a sanitary and well organized service within the Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital. Must be able to provide physical restraint for safe handling of large animal patients.
Requires ability to lift (infrequently) heavy loads and to jog/work
horses on lead. Requirements: Associate's degree in veterinary

We are seeking an energetic, enthusiastic individual for a newly created large animal imaging technician position. Primary duties will initially be Large Animal Radiology and Scintigraphy (Nuclear Medicine). We have a state of the art imaging facility which includes Eklin digital radiography units and a Fuji computed radiography system. Both overhead gantry and portable radiolography equipment is utilized.
Once you have mastered these imaging modalities you will also have the opportunity to advance and become a trained operator of both our computed tomography unit and our high field strength MRI.
Some small animal and exotic imaging will be required, but your primary responsibility will be to image horses.
Must meet the required criteria (WAC 246-935-060) to be eligible to sit for the Washington State veterinary technician exam and must pass the exam the first time it is available.
